Not just sitting pretty...

Our Chickens

If you want to sell eggs, the Hy-line is the best choice.  The Hy-line is a hybridized commercial layer, so you will not be able to breed with her.  With an egg almost every day, no traditional pure breed chicken will ever be able to give the same egg production.
If you want a dual purpose chicken, that you can breed with, then the Potch Koekoek is an excellent choice.  You will only get 4 or 5 eggs per hen per week, but she can also hatch chicks, and she is good for meat.

Potch-Koekoek
Amberlink henne

The only true South African chicken, bred by Prof Chris Marais in the late sixties.

Outperforming the Ovambo, the Venda and the Naked neck chicken, when it comes to egg laying (and that's official!).  Very hardy and easy to keep.  If you need a good dual purpose chicken, the Potch Koekoek is probably the most economical choice.
